Michael D. Butler with Dr. Nido Qubein, President High Point University in High Point North Carolina  Michael spoke in the Communications Department ‘Becoming a Best-Selling Author in a Post Borders Era’ New book available in Barnes and Noble and everywhere May 2014

The myth of “If I can just get my book in the book store it will sell right?”

In 2011 the Internet killed the publishing industry. That was the year Amazon announced that e-books had outsold traditional print books for the first time. Kindle also announced in July of 2011 that 27 of the top 100 selling e-books were self published and were not published by a traditional publisher. This fact highlights the rebirth of the publishing industry in the digital age.
  • Why it’s harder to become a best-seller in the Internet age

Recently Bowker.com stated that there are approximately 300,000 newly published authors each year. This, coupled with the fact that 80% of American’s want to publish a book sometime in their lifetime has made the publishing space very crowded and noisy. It’s more difficult for the new author to get found, noticed, and sell books.
  • Why it’s easier to become a best-seller in the Internet age

In the middle of this difficulty lies the solution. The digital world killed traditional publishing as we knew it but the renaissance we’re seeing now, a record number of new best-seller’s,  is happening because of the very thing that ended the old order – the Internet.
  • How to become a best-selling author in a post-Borders Era

By leveraging relationships authors can quickly syndicate their content into new channels. By solidifying relationships with entrepreneurs, authors and speakers who already have large lists, speaking platforms and Online tribes, new authors can partner with and create relationships with these existing thought leaders and create ‘win-wins’.

J. Paul Getty American’s first Billionaire said, “I’d rather have 1% of 100% efforts than 100% of my own.” Getty understood and taught the power of leverage as did the famous 3rd century Mathematician Archimedes whose famous for saying, “Give me a  lever long enough and a place to stand and I can move the world.”

Like the printing press bringing the world out of the dark ages the Internet is bringing a Renaissance to the globe by giving us the topics we want with a search and a click. By leveraging keywords authors can connect with pre-existing Online tribes of people who are more likely to buy their books based on demo-graphic and psyco-graphic filters. By leveraging joint venture partnerships and relationships authors can see more success with quicker book sells.
